Matt Crossley commenced his musical education at the age of 9 when having been given a Soprano Cornet by his Great Uncle he was thrust into the East Riding Junior Brass Band. At the Age of 11 he took up the French Horn and for many years enjoyed playing French and Tenor horn in various ensembles throughout the county including the Driffield Town Band, East Riding Youth Brass Band, Yorkshire Youth Orchestra and East Riding Youth Orchestra. In 1999 he left East Yorkshire to study at the University of Huddersfield where he studied French Horn with John Thornton. He then moved to Manchester for a year of postgraduate study with Bob Ashworth and Lindsey Stoker. Concluding his education in 2003 he began to seek work as a freelance horn player and has performed with many orchestras including BBC National Orchestra of Wales (4th Horn Trial), Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra, Welsh Chamber Orchestra, The Mowbray Orchestra, Manchester Philharmonia, Skipton Camerata, Sinfonia Cymru, St Cecilia Orchestra and the band of The King and I 2005 UK Tour. Currently he is touring as Solo Horn with Opus 1 a small opera company based in Huddersfield performing La Boheme and Tosca by Puccini. Solo engagements have included Mozart Horn Concerto No.3 In Eb, Leopold Mozart Sinfonia Di Caccia (1st Horn), Bach B Minor Mass and this June he will perform the Poulenc Sextet and Mozart Quintet for Piano, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn and Bassoon.

Currently based in Manchester Matt relishes the challenge and diversity of his work in both the Music and Computing fields and in his rare free time he enjoys maintaining his cherished MX5 and long suffering Citroen Xantia!
